Once your slime is hard to nonusable, you can dispose of safely.

What is the science behind making slime?

The glue is a polymer and these polymer molecules flow with one another which keeps the glue in liquid form. When it is mixed with toothpaste which has sodium borate in it, it makes a new substance called polyvinyl acetate which is cool sticky in nature. This process is called cross-linking.

The toothpaste (Borate ions) mixes with polymer liquid which converts this liquid glue into thicker and slime material.

Imagine rice water which is when kept for a day converts into slime form. The molecule strands in rice water actually combine which makes it less liquid substance.
